Happy Thanksgiving!

It's hard to believe that another year has flown by!  It's Thanksgiving, a time to be grateful and thankful for all God has done for each of us on our weight loss journey's.  I am truly grateful for God enabling me to lose weight, keep it off, and now sow into your lives.  I thank God for each and every one of you.  I learn a lot from you as your Weight Loss Coach.  You are constantly challenging me to grow as well!  It's a win, win relationship.

I want to encourage you all to stay focused this holiday season on your goals.  We can often get distracted by just wanting to enjoy ourselves, but really we are setting ourselves up for disappointment at the weight we put back on.  If you stay focused, you can get a jump start on the New Year, and start ahead of your goals instead of behind.  Most importantly, you will build more self-control, commitment, and character.  Three important areas you must develop in to lose weight and keep it off!  

Thanksgiving Weight Loss Survival Tips:
  • -Make a commitment to eat one plate of food.  Do NOT go back for seconds.
  • -Do not take leftovers home.  Commit to preparing a healthy meal at home the next day or treating yourself to a healthy meal at a restaurant.
  • -Eat a half portion of dessert and commit to exercising the following day to burn off any excess calories you ate above your calorie limit.
  • -Take a healthy alternative item (like a veggie dish) to Thanksgiving dinner and fill up your plate with your dish and the healthier, lower calorie items first.  Eat smaller portions of the calorie dense foods like macaroni and cheese (anything with cheese), potato salad, dressing or stuffing, ham, sweet potato casserole and pie, cookies, cakes, and desserts.  
  • -Eat turkey breast or chicken for your meat only without the skin.  It it is not available, choose to skip any other fatty meats.
  • -Minimize portions of anything containing added sugar or fat (butter).
  • -Limit bread portions.  Take a whole grain wheat bread as a side item.  Skip the butter, use a little olive oil for dipping.
  • -Limit the extras:  cranberry sauce, salad dressing, barbeque sauce, ketchup, and definitely gravy.  Make your own fresh fruit topping instead like fresh cranberry spread or take a low cal dressing as an option for salad.
  • -Drink water or seltzer water with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice.
  • -Pray before you leave home to empower your weight loss journey and choices at Thanksgiving Day dinner.
  • -Enjoy time with family versus focusing on food.  If you make better food choices, you won't be sluggish after dinner so you can really enjoy the festivities.

Faith Without Works Is Dead!!!

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James 2:17)  

Weight loss is a journey of faith and action.  The two paired together makes your journey a success.  Faith requires us to step out without seeing or knowing what the outcome will be and regardless of the challenges we face, keep going!

You can believe that you will lose weight all day long, but if there is no action or plan behind your faith, you will not lose the weight.

Action=eating the right foods, exercising your body, reading scriptures that will strengthen your will, resisting the temptation to stray from your eating plan, being accountable to others, walking instead of driving to destinations that are within walking distance, talking to others who have been successful and incorporating the things you learn into your plan, praying to God about your weight loss efforts.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen.  (Hebrews 11:1)

You may not see the weight falling off, but it will if you believe and you accompany your belief with the action required, your goals will become a reality.

AN AGREEMENT...

Writing an agreement with God and committing to the agreement you have made, will free you from the bondage of food in those areas where you are challenged.  Let the Holy Spirit lead you in writing your agreement.  Review it daily and whenever you are tempted, remember your agreement!

Psalms 73:25  Whom have I in heaven but you?  I desire you more than anything on earth.

MY SAMPLE CONTRACT:  (Issue:  Overeating)
"Lord, it is not good for me to eat too much and I know that it is not your will for my life.  As you say in your word, a person without self-control is like a city with broken-down walls.  Lord, today I submit my will to eat, my eating choices and my desires to you.  Whenever I desire to eat too much, I will clothe myself with the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for indulging my flesh.  I will stop continually thinking about the evil cravings of my physical nature to satisfy my lust for food.  Lord, you are my heart’s only desire.  I hunger and thirst after you and your word.  Today, I commit myself totally to you."

There is POWER in the name of Jesus...

I love the song, "Break Every Chain" by Tasha Cobbs.  There is truly power in the name of Jesus to motivate your weight loss efforts.  I clearly remember when I first started jogging as part of my weight maintenance plan, there were some days I had to sing the name of Jesus to make it through 1 mile, then 2 miles, then 3 miles.  I know that singing the name of Jesus empowered my workout efforts.  What about you?  Are you allowing Jesus to empower your weight loss journey?  God is preparing an army of people who recognize His voice and the power of His name.  Your journey is not just about you, but the glory of God. As you break your chains, you empower others to do the same.  We serve an amazing God! 

I challenge each of  you, the next time you hit a rough spot, say the name of Jesus-yell it out.  He is your biggest cheerleader standing on the sidelines and empowering you as you make the sacrifice to lose weight and get healthy.  Do you hear the chains falling?

Meet Lindsey M Adams...1st Graduate of the Body Breakthru 12 Month Program!

I have been a weight loss coach for over 7 years.  I have coached many clients, a few have successfully made it to their goals, and many have not.  Somewhere in the midst of difficulty, they give up! What is the difference between success and failure?  COMMITMENT and ACCOUNTABILITY!  Lindsey Adams is the first client to successfully complete the "12 Steps to Weight Loss Success", Body Breakthru Nutritional Program for weight loss and look what the Lord has done!  Not only has she lost weight, but she has built a strong foundation for her wellness and weight loss journey.  I am so proud of her and this amazing accomplishment.  Lindsey, you have proven that commitment and hard work pay off.  Congratulations!  Here is her testimony:

That is the foundation that transformed a 5’5 307lb women into a healthy, whole and fit 181lb woman today. After 126 lbs. lost and still losing; God has been my number one source, provider, intercessor, healer and motivator. I started my Journey in July 2011, after the Lord spoke to my spiritual accountability partner about the enemy’s plan to kill me with morbid obesity.  I wore a size 22/24 and weighed over 300lbs. Most importantly, I had low self- value and esteem and was in abusive relationships for over 8 years. I found myself being the “other woman” or the “side-line” piece because I tried replacing my feelings of rejection with male attention. Between July 2011 and October 2011, I lost 26 lbs., walking 1 hour on my local track 3 days a week. In October 2011, I joined Weight Watchers and a nutritional program Body Breakthru. As a member of these programs I learned lifestyle changes and ways to face my weight loss challenges.  I also joined LA Fitness and became an avid group fitness participant. Over a total of 15 months I lost my first 100 lbs. Today I am a size 10/12 and 181 lbs. I am excited to reach my goal and I continue to add variety and intensity to my workouts. I also work diligently to stop over eating and emotional eating, as well as to practice better portion control and honest calories tracking. I found an old picture of the OLD me!

Eight years ago I was 36 lbs overweight, depressed, anxiety ridden and stuffing myself with comfort foods.  As a health major in college, I knew I needed a lifestyle change but was not able to bring myself out of the place of my pain to gain some much needed energy and lose weight.  I was stuck in the past-an emotional eater drowning in gallons of ice cream.  Most importantly, it wasn't until I hit rock bottom emotionally that I was willing to do anything to lose the weight and keep it off.

I was introduced to the Herbalife nutrition products in 2005.  In 3 months, I lost 36 lbs and 26 1/2 inches.  I went from a size 12/14 to a size 5/6 and have maintained my weight loss results since then.  Today I'm at 130 lbs and have never stopped using the Herbalife nutritional products!  I love the energy they give and they have also made me look younger. 

I haven't kept many pictures from when I was overweight, but I did recently find an old ID picture when I was on my way to my heaviest at 176 lbs.  I have posted it here so you can visually see how miserable I was-inside and out.  As I trusted God, and kept to my nutrition plan, and exercised I lost weight and now...I feel great.  I have a lot of energy and have devoted a large portion of my time to coaching other women who want to lose weight.

Weight loss requires a LIFESTYLE change.  You have to be willing to do the work -inside and out.  For those of you who will be joining the upcoming challenge, I look forward to rolling up my sleeves alongside you to help you get the results you are looking for.  It's time to make a change, it's time to do the work.  Commit today!

Reprograming Yourself...

Psalm 62- For Depression, Anxiety, and Panic Disorder....

Meditate on God's word for healing, strength, and deliverance!

Seven years ago I suffered from anxiety, depression and severe panic disorder.  The panic disorder was so bad initially I was confined to my home.  God delivered me as I meditated upon His word, surrendered my life into His hands and trusted Him completely.  I opted out of the medication because of the side effects.  However, I committed to going to a professional counselor to sort out the issues of my life.  But, as I meditated upon God's word after about 1 year-even the counselor said..."Tamekia, you don't need me anymore."  My desperation for healing was the motivator, but a daily dose of God's word did it for me!  Life is not without hope.  It is a tool used by the enemy to keep us in bondage.  

Let God's word free you today.  Meditate upon it DAILY and renew your mind in the word of God until your deliverance comes. I started in the Psalms.

A New Journey....

New journey's present new challenges, new revelation and an opportunity for growth.  God is always GROWING us to the next level and the next mission, to make us more like Him.  I accept my new journey.  Weight loss and weight maintenance has been my journey since 2005 until now.  Everything I have learned, I have shared in order to see others accomplish their dream and goals of losing weight-AND KEEPING IT OFF!

My new journey is a wellness journey....and I share it here because God has put me on the earth for it to share with everyone He places on my path.  It's a journey towards health and wellness:  mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.  All are required for ANY wellness, weight loss or health journey.

The physical part of this journey has presented two challenges I've had in recent months:
(1) Optic Neuritis:  An inflammation of the optic nerves resulting in temporary blindness in my left eye (This lasted for several weeks 6 months ago)  My sight returned after a 2 week round of intravenous and oral steroids.
(2) Parasthesia:  A sensation of tickling, tingling, burning, pricking, or numbness in my right leg. It feels as though my leg has "fallen asleep" and will not wake up. (This has lasted for 4 weeks so far).  Not only has it affected how I walk, but I cannot drive because my leg is weak. My doctor reassures me that my leg will return to normal without medication although they aren't sure how long this symptom will last.  I am grateful.

The doctor's have given me a probable diagnosis of MS (Multiple Sclerosis) although my brain MRI does NOT meet the criteria.  Could be Devic's Disease.  The Dr's are still trying to figure it out, but God knows!  I honestly believe God is using this whole experience to get my attention.  I can't fully fulfill his plans for me if I'm not healthy and some things you just have to go through before you can help someone else.  I know my life is NOT about me, so I inquire of the LORD....who am I to help?  What is the purpose of this?  I am ready and willing to be used for His glory.

Next, a question...

How often do we really pay attention to what we are putting into our bodies?  God has marvelously designed our bodies to work like machines.  Our bodies have the ability to cleanse, heal and regulate themselves AUTOMATICALLY.  We abuse our bodies and frustrate this process by the choices we make everyday through gluttony in high calorie-nutrient insufficient foods, smoking cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, etc.  We get caught in this cycle: we get sick, we want a "quick fix" to get us back to "normal life" simply forgetting that we are where we are because the choices we have made have added up.  After getting medication from the Dr. to mask the symptoms, we go back onto the regular course until the next time we get sick and need more medicine abusing the thing God has designed to help only "AS NEEDED".  We are sicker than ever living on medications that make us sick-instead of living on what will make us well.

I have considered myself to be a "healthy person" making wiser choices about what I eat (EX:  choosing Chipotle over McDonalds), but as I consider this NEW JOURNEY I realize that I haven't been as "healthy" as I thought I was.  As the weeks go on I will uncover what I mean by this.  For now, I want you to check out an important movie.  It has changed my perspective about the world we live in, how we are designed to function and how our choices determine how we LIVE every day.

You will need just about an hour and a half to view the movie,  While you watch consider:  Is your journey JUST about losing weight?  How important is the quality of your life and what are you willing to sacrifice in order to improve your health and longevity?  This is a question I've had to ask myself as I walk along this new, exciting, challenging but life changing journey with God.
